Saturday April 21th, 2018 : 9:00am to 11:00am


Duration: 2 hours

Minimum 12 participants – Maximum 20 participants

This Workshop is intended to help you overcome a common situation which most researchers meet. Losing trace of an Ancestor in your research can often be resolved by broadening your research criteria. Individuals, families and groups travelled much more than we presume. Living in small communities can also bring your Ancestor to have information recorded in unexpected places. Part of this Workshop discusses some notions on historical context, religion, communities, and travelling.

Minimum 12 participants – Maximum 20 participants

This Workshop is intended to help you ensure that you are following your bloodline and not someone else’s’ Ancestors. Many individuals beginning research often get trapped in “Fishing” for Ancestors rather than “Searching” for Ancestors, which results in a huge amount of lost time and energy. Part of this Workshop discusses some notions on methodology and provides the basics to identify an individual from another.

Minimum 12 participants – Maximum 20 participants

This Workshop is a continuation of the initiation to the Genealogical Proof Standards. These Standards provide a guideline to analyse the records, information and evidence you find. This Workshop will address the value of the Information we use in our research and the different categories: Primary, Secondary and Undetermined. Part of this Workshop discusses what you will find in your home, the home of relatives and in the different records found in Archive Centers and Repositories.

This Workshop is intended to help you organize the huge amount of paperwork you accumulate when doing research. Having some organisation in those documents can allow you to save time and energy during the process. Part of this Workshop discusses some notions on registering information and on organizing your research by using forms, filing systems, electronics and software.

Workshops are a great way for you to learn how to get or stay on track when you do Genealogical Research. Contrary to regular courses offered in a series, where you have to commit to attending once a week for several weeks, the Workshops we offer are much more flexible. You choose which Workshop suits you based on the theme discussed. You have no obligation to register for more than one, if you have no interest in the other thematic workshops. Therefore, no long term obligation or commitment.

Each Workshops requires a minimum of 12 participants and a maximum of 20 participants. Workshop registrations are made online in the Shop section. Payment in full is required to complete the registration. Additionally, you will have a form to complete during the checkout process. Registration is mandatory for the workshops: no walk-ins or registrations are accepted on the day of the event. Should the minimum participants required not be reached 15 days prior to the date and time scheduled, the workshop will be cancelled and you will be entirely refunded.

How do you register? Begin by opening your account by clicking on the “My Account” tab locate under the SHOP tab. A password will be emailed to you. Once this is done, you simply go to our shop and choose the Workshop you wish to attend. On the product, you will choose the location, date and time. Then, press add to cart. If you have all the items you desire, proceed to checkout. If already have an account in our Shop you will be asked to login, The fields on the right side of the checkout page are the last steps to register for the Workshop. This information will appear on your order invoice as a reminder of your registration. No need to download and complete any other forms. It’s quick and easy!

What is included? For each Workshop, you will receive a folder with documentation and a workbook.

Participants should bring all relevant questions to the workshop and documents appropriate to the theme. If you have a computer or Pad, these should also be brought: WIFI is available on-site. Include in your workshop satchel a note pad and a pencil to take notes.
